Hi all,
We recently wrote to the Select Committee regarding its thematic inquiry into fisheries and the marine environment, as the published scope did not reference aquaculture at all. Our aim was to ensure aquaculture is explicitly considered as part of the inquiry.
The Committee has responded, confirming that while aquaculture is not explicitly listed, the inquiry remains broad and could include scrutiny of aquaculture-related issues. They also invited us to submit evidence on specific topics we believe should be addressed.
While we continue engaging with MPs to secure a more direct focus on aquaculture, we now have an opportunity to provide input. We’d like to hear from the network about key issues you feel should be highlighted.
Some of the areas we are considering include:
- MMO licensing processes – barriers and inefficiencies in obtaining aquaculture licenses
- Restrictions on exports – challenges in market access post-Brexit and beyond
- Water quality – impacts of pollution and regulation on aquaculture operations
If there are additional topics you believe should be raised, or if you have specific evidence to support these issues, please add your input to this thread. We will format and submit the evidence accordingly.
We will be looking to collate evidence in May, to give members being onboarded a chance to input.
Thanks,
Max
